Reduce, reuse, recycle, how to make reusable washing pads
Being conscious is in the air and it’s about time!
My intention today is not to write a green text but to share with you an easy and green tutorial so that you can make your own reusable washing pads, to remove make up, to clean your face, and take care of yourself and take care of the planet at the same time…
To make these pads you will need
- a coton, bamboo, linen, viscose yarn that can be crocheted and washed a high temperatures without shrinking.
- a crochet and a yarn needle. A marker may be useful to mark the beginning of the row.
I have used some DMC Natural XL left overs a crochet n°7 and here we go…
NB: for the DMC Natural XL, because the yarn is quite thick I did only 2 rows. With thinner yarn and crochet you may need to crochet a 3rd row. Therefore a marker can be useful in that case.
Make a simple ring. Slide the crochet in the ring, a bring the yarn through the ring. Make 3 chain crochet.
Proceed and make 11 double crochet in the center of the ring. Make a slipped stitch in the 3rd chain stitch from the beginning of the row.
To close the ring, simply pull the yarn left from the beginning of the skein.
Make 3 chain stitches and a double crochet in the 1st double crochet stitch from the previous row.
Proceed and make 2 double crochet in each of the previous row double crochet. You should end up with 24 stitches (in reality 23 double crochet stitches + 1 chain of 3 stitches). Close the row with a slipped stitch in the 3rd chain stitch. Cut the yarn and bring it through the loop.
Make a 2nd pad following the same model.
At the end of the 2nd disk, make the slipped stitch but don’t cut the yarn. Put the 1st disk on top of the 2nd one and bring the crochet in one of the double crochet stitch of the 1st disk, make a single crochet. Repeat all around the two disks. Cut the yarn, bring it through the loop. Use the yarn needle to weave in ends.
There you go your pad is ready!
A little advice, do not hesitate to regularly wash your pads in boiling water with a little savon de Marseille to remove the grease and bring your pads back to life 😉
If you use thinner yarn you will need to make a 3rd row. Proceed as follow:
Start the row with a 3 chain stitches, then *2 double crochet in the 1st double crochet of the previous row, one double crochet in the next double crochet* repeat ** until the end.
